Take advantage of a tax-free weekend August 3rd through August 5th, 2018! For Richmond-area residents, that’s 5.3% in sales tax. The Virginia Department of Taxation details which items are qualified along with any limitations. In addition to school or office supplies ($20 item limit or less), you can also purchase hurricane and emergency preparedness products like portable generators, batteries, and flashlights. This is a great weekend to purchase big ticket items like certain energy-efficient and water-conserving products, and smoke detectors. Some stores like Best Buy take the extra step and offer no sales on everything in the store. Don’t want to brave the crowd? Don’t mark online retailers like Amazon, Target and Walmart off your list.
